The day, hour by hour

• After breakfast

  Through Franschhoek

  The old Huguenot village, and coffee on the main street for anyone who wants it.

• Late morning

  The Franschhoek Pass

  The road climbs out of the valley in long bends, with the vineyards laid out below. We stop at the top for the view.

• 1.00

  Lunch at Creation

  Up the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, heaven and earth, to Creation on the ridge, for lunch with the whole valley at the window, a tasting of the estate’s wines, and a walk among the sculptures in the vines.

• Afternoon

  Down to Walker Bay

  Ten minutes down the valley to The Marine↗, on the cliff above the bay.

• Evening

  The cliff path

  The path runs from the hotel along the shore, and the evening light on the bay is worth the walk. Dinner as they choose; Hermanus has good tables a short walk away.
