The Cape, Hosted · Saturday 20 February 2027
Met at the aircraft door, and on the rocks at Hout Bay by lunchtime.
Your guests will have flown overnight, and they will be more tired than they admit. So the first day does one thing well and then leaves them alone.
They are met at the aircraft door in Russian and never see a queue. Then they go by road, round the edge of the city and along the Atlantic seaboard past Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles, to Hout Bay. It is the most beautiful way into the Cape, and the right first look at it. By lunchtime they are on the rocks at the foot of Chapman’s Peak, and nothing else is asked of them.
A Russian-speaking assistant meets the party as they step off the aircraft and takes them through a private channel. Passports and formalities are handled while they sit. No queue, no arrivals hall.
One vehicle with its driver, the Russian-speaking guide aboard and the luggage travelling with them. I meet them as they come through.
Past Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay, with the Twelve Apostles above and the ocean on the right the whole way. About forty minutes.
A small lodge built on the rocks at the foot of Chapman’s Peak, with the sea a few metres from the rooms. Rooms are allocated in advance, so the luggage goes straight to them. A light lunch on the deck.
The deck, the sea, or sleep. No one is gathered up for anything.
Dinner at the lodge. Over coffee, ten minutes on the days ahead: what the weather is doing, what to wear for the flight, and what time things begin. An early night.
